John Perez Martinez, (aka J. Perez) was born in Northridge with 5 sisters and 3 brothers and a mom and dad who loved taking weekend rides to Simi Valley through the Santa Susana Pass. Their dreams came true when they were able to move to Simi in the mid 60's. John went through the Simi Schools then Moorpark Junior College, and eventually winding up at The Los Angeles School of Broadcasters in Hollywood - “The place you go to get into broadcasting.” Needless to say, it worked!

His career in radio began at 670 KWNK in the late 80's when the Simi station broadcasted from the Fallbrook Mall in West Hills, KNJO, KBBY, B95.1, KHAY, KEYT, KVEN, and of course, 99.1 The Ranch!

Beyond The Ranch, John has had a varied work life. As a youngster, he was his dad’s right-hand man in his gardening business. He also worked in fast food back when you cooked from scratch. Then learning the trades of sales, customer service, heavy equipment operator, warehouse supervisor, electronic assembly, bankcard settlements, studio recording editor, and part-time weekends on the radio, just waiting for that full-time position which he was blessed with and enjoyed for over 20 years. After 5 + years producing and participating in a weekend Real Estate radio show, John was encouraged to become a realtor. He took up the challenge, earned his license and is now helping people sell and buy properties throughout the Ventura County and San Fernando Valley.

One of his passions is working with non-profit organizations, schools, locals and event broadcastings, creating theater in the mind and the gathering of people together in a meaningful community. He still brings his lunch group together to meet in Ventura and organizes a bowling league in Camarillo on Saturday nights. For over 15 years these friends-as-listeners have become friends-like-family.

John is very thrilled to be a 99.1 The Ranch...Ranch Hand Monday through Friday 2-6pm, your “local afternoon friend on the radio!” Part of the team that’s built the first Ventura County station that covers all of Simi Valley - and now the San Fernando Valley, too!
